West Tennessee Today is a new venture of Union University broadcast journalism majors into a digital news service.
From 2008-2018, Union Broadcasting System (UBS)—the digital arm of Union’s broadcast journalism program—aired a daily local cable newscast, Jackson 24/7. More than fifty students graduated and earned jobs in broadcast journalism and production.
Currently Union graduates are working at Fox News Channel (senior assignment editor Jodie Curtis), at three of the four Memphis news stations, News Channel 5 in Nashville, Farmweek (co-anchor Troy Moling presents agricultural news in Mississippi on public television and RFD-TV), Bristol, TN (WCYB), Tulsa, OK (veteran sportscaster Jonathan Huskey) and a variety of other broadcast outlets across the country.
The push toward digital video journalism at virtually every television station in America and expanding online local news services led to the development of West Tennessee Today, news coverage for Jackson TN and 14 other surrounding counties in this region of the state.
